New legislation can always be a headache for organizations of all sizes. In November 2024, the French government announced changes applicable to e-invoicing, which initially will come into effect in September 2026, and round 2 in September 2027.
As a business, it’s important to be prepared and ascertain what needs to be actioned and by when. The good news is that many businesses are further ahead than they may realise, but this blog helps unravel the details and help you map out what you need to do to ensure compliance and stay efficient.
What is the French eInvoicing Compliance Legislation?
The 2020 Finance Law states that:
- By September 2026, all French businesses must be able to receive electronic invoices. Large and medium French companies must submit electronic invoices and report on transactions with individuals, cross-border transactions, and invoice payment status.
- By September 2027, these requirements will apply to all French businesses. To enable these electronic transactions, France designed a national model (the Y-model), which combines a central platform (PPF) with certified private platforms (PDP).
What is the current status?
On 15th November, France dropped a compliance bombshell. The central platform (PPF) will not provide free e-invoicing. ALL French businesses need to work with a PDP to submit their invoices and to comply with their e-reporting obligations.
What does this mean for you as a business?
From September ’26, you must be connected to a PDP, and even if you do not have to send e-invoices, you must be ready to receive them.
How to select the right PDP for your business:
Many solutions offer PDP services to help you comply with French regulations. While this is important, it’s not enough.
Experience in other countries has shown that what satisfies government requirements often falls short for businesses. Government-mandated e-invoicing systems may support tax collection effectively, but they do little to enhance your efficiency or competitiveness. Moreover, if you’re sending invoices to customers abroad or receiving them from international suppliers, those transactions may fall outside the scope of French regulations.
To stay compliant while also cutting costs and boosting efficiency, you need a flexible, forward-thinking e-invoicing solution that allows you to focus on driving your company’s success.
The good news is that you already use a certified PDP: Tungsten Automation.
