VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) – no consensus agreed
Further to the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) assembly last month, negotiations failed to reach a definitive consensus on the ViDA proposal. This was mainly due to Estonia’s objection to the proposed deemed supplier rules.
ECOFIN again re-convened on 21 June 2024 with hopes that a final package could be agreed between all Member States. However, Estonia maintained its position, stalling progress for an agreed package.
The ViDA presidency will now shift from Belgium to Hungary, who will now be tasked with reaching consensus on the package.
The ViDA proposal is expected to have a profound impact on e-invoicing and e-reporting practices over the coming decade. Tungsten Automation continues to follow ViDA negotiations closely, with a view to analysing a final version and assessing its impact.
